Hello everyone,

Welcome back and we hope we find you and your family in good health.

As you are all probably aware dentists can now start working again from Monday 8th June 20 and we finally received the recommendation and guidance for opening dental practices – it was 64 pages long!!

To cut a long story short we can carry out some dentistry, but it is quite limited. The primary aim is to create a safe environment for patients and dental staff during this current pandemic.

The main danger being aerosols created by using the high-speed drills (the whiny one that sprays out water) and ultrasonic scaler (as used to clean teeth). Current scientific thinking is that the virus can be transmitted in this aerosol. Once this aerosol has been produced the surgery has to be left empty for a minimum of 60 mins and then cleaned from top to bottom, including the floor, before the surgery can be used again. This severely curtails carrying out routine fillings or any treatment that requires the high-speed drill or ultrasonic scaler.

Therefore, we will be restricting these appointments to essential treatments for people in severe pain. However, we can still carry out dental exams, hand scaling of teeth, temporary fillings, recementing of crown/bridges to name but a few.

Our community has been through a lot the last few months and all of us are looking forward to getting back to our normal habits and routines. Many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care it is both safe and comfortable. We follow infection control guidelines made by our governing bodies and we are up-to-date on the new guidance that has been issued for Coronovirus.

We ask you all to be patient with us during this period. However, it is a fast-moving situation and as more scientific evidence becomes available and the Coronvirus alert level changes we should be able to provide a more normal service.

Watch this space.
